The estate is located in the heart of Anjou Noir. The region is so named for its dark soils, mostly composed of schist bedrock. There’s also sandstone, poudingues, clay… and many other geological nuances. The 27 hectares that make up our vineyard benefit from and are enriched by this diversity. They are also exposed to a mild oceanic influence. This unique terroir allows us to explore all the facets of the estate’s grape varieties, such as Chenin, Cabernet franc and Pineau d’Aunis. To preserve and enhance the soils and diversity of the site, the estate has been certified organic since 2016. The history of the Guégniard family has been written on this land for several generations…

A vineyard,
a story
The story
1961
Creation of Domaine de la Bergerie
The story of La Bergerie begins with Marie-Scolastique Bouhiron, who bought Domaine de la Bergerie by candlelight in 1961… Already a winegrower in Champ-sur-Layon and descendant of a line of winegrowers, it was with her that the building of the family wine heritage began.
1964
A heritage handed down from mother to daughter...
Marie-Scolastique passes on the Bergerie to her daughter Marie-Agnès and her husband, Bernard Guégniard. Together they continue to refurbish the vineyards and the estate.
1979
...from mother to son
Yves Guégniard joined his parents on the farm in 1979. Thanks to the work subsequently carried out with his wife Marie-Annick, the estate took on a new dimension. The great terroirs of Savennières, Coteaux du Layon and Quarts de Chaume have all been added to the Bergerie plot.
2010
... from father to daughter
In 2010, Anne joined her parents on the farm. After training in catering and sommellerie, she worked for several years in a variety of establishments. The United States, London, Switzerland… his destinations varied before he decided to return to Anjou and the family estate. Today, these experiences provide her with an essential insight into the development of her vintages. That same year, David, her husband, opened his restaurant ” La Table de la Bergerie “, in the heart of the vineyard. For the first time, La Bergerie becomes a place where wine and gastronomy meet and complement each other. In 2017 La Table was awarded its first Michelin star.
2018
Anne & Marie: The 8th generation
After a career in psychology, Marie, the youngest in the family, took a professional turn. She took a BTS in winemaking in Montpellier and trained for three years at Domaine Roc d’Anglade. In 2018, she reunited with her sister Anne. Together, they took over the reins of the vineyard. Both represent the 8th generation of winegrowers in the family, and the 4th to work the Bergerie land.
2024
The Family expands
In 2024, it’s Amaury’s turn to join the operation. Originally from Champagne, he is also Marie’s husband, and it’s with precision that he brings his viticultural experience to the Bergerie vineyards. Today, with Anne, Marie and Amaury, the family tradition continues… almost 60 years after the arrival of Marie-scolastique, the great-grandmother of the two sisters.

Our
work
Our passion
Our vineyard has been certified Organic since the 2016 vintage.
Because quality is our watchword, we strive to maintain consistency in the excellence of our wines. To achieve this, we devote a great deal of time to the vines, in order to harvest quality raw materials. As winemakers committed to sustainable viticulture, we are guided in our choices by common sense and observation. Depending on the nature of the soil, we either grass or cultivate it superficially. Throughout the year, work is carried out with a view to the coming harvest (respectful pruning, disbudding, thinning, severe selection during the harvest…) and is adapted to each vintage. In the cellar, we accompany our wines with care and simplicity. We adapt our breeding methods to our “juices”, respecting their land of origin and their identity. Each plot is vinified and aged separately to preserve the authenticity and expression of the terroir. The choice of blends is made on the basis of a few cuvées.
